Why Use SMS OTP MFA?
SMS OTP MFA adds an additional layer of security to your account. When you log in, you'll need to enter a unique, one-time code sent to your mobile phone in addition to your password. This makes it more difficult for unauthorized users to access your account, even if they know your password.
If you login using a connected Google or Microsoft account, mfa will not be required as that responsibility is delegated to your connected account. MFA is required for all password and magic link logins.
Enabling SMS OTP MFA
Follow these steps to enable SMS OTP MFA on your account:
- Navigate to the WatchTower website at https://app.yourwatchtower.com/ (opens in a new tab).

- After you are logged in, click on your profile icon located in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- In the dropdown menu, select 'Profile'.
- In your profile page, find the section labeled 'Multi-Factor Authentication'.
- Click on the 'Enable' button next to 'SMS OTP'.
- You will be prompted to enter your mobile phone number. Enter your number and click 'Send Verification Code'.
- You will receive a text message with a verification code. Enter this code into the field labeled 'Enter Verification Code' and click 'Verify'.
- If the code is correct, SMS OTP MFA will be enabled on your account.
Using SMS OTP MFA
After you've enabled SMS OTP MFA, it will be used each time you log in to WatchTower. Here's how it works:
- Enter your username and password as usual.
- After entering your credentials, you'll be asked to enter a verification code.
- Check your mobile phone for a text message containing the verification code. Enter this code into the field on the website.
- If the code is correct, you'll be logged into your account.
Troubleshooting
If you're having trouble with SMS OTP MFA, here are a few common issues and solutions:
- I didn't receive a verification code: Make sure that the phone number associated with your account is correct. If it is, and you're still not receiving codes, try resending the code. If you're still not receiving messages, contact your mobile service provider.
- My verification code isn't working: Make sure you're entering the code correctly, and that you're using the most recent code sent to your phone. Codes are time-sensitive and expire after a short period.
